In my three year stay in Atlanta, I can say I have met a lot of people… from the crowds to the artists the list goes on. I checked out this “Noize Porn” event that was being held one night, and that was the day a friendship blossomed. While I was hanging out outside with this Japanese brew in my hand, this guy approached me. *Note, he was wearing a “Marta: Moving Africans Rapidly Through Atlanta.” tank top, in my head I’m thinking who’s this?  After our formal introductions, time went by and so did great conversations.

As I was getting ready to leave, he handed me his business card. Believe it or not, I had no idea this guy was an artist. So as soon as I got home, I checked out his site and I was amazed; Sean Fahie is the name.  I called him the next day and next thing you know, I’m having wine and pasta with this guy!  Sean is all over the Art scene in ATL. He has collaborated with Vitamin Water, done shows in New York and Savannah, currently working on a children’s book, and an upcoming Spring line for a clothing company; That’s just to name a few of the upcoming projects!

Not only is he an amazing illustrator, but also lyrically genius! Sean isn’t only passionate about art, but as well as hip-hop, indie music and anything that touches his soul. Speak Easy is the other half of this man. He recently released a 17 track album entitled : Words Have Power. I can’t lie, I shed a few tears and goose bumps while listening to it for the first time. ( It’s also free to download, and you won’t regret it.)

Sean has taught me how to see and live life with no limits, never question tomorrow, and to keep it “gully” with positive thoughts. I had the privilege to see both Sean Fahie and Speak Easy in action –– The Hip-Hop, Indie, & Soul music character meets the creative and ambitious man with magic fingers. Sean will be hosting his solo art show ” Coronas, Condoms & Cigarettes” Saturday, November 13th @ 7pm at Ponder Wonder in East Atlanta .
I hate that I’ll be missing it, but I did get the chance to be around while he was creating his masterpieces. Trust me you’ll be blown away!
Mark your calendars and go get some GULLY in your system.

CLOUDEATER

You ever had a moment where you just can’t get a song our of your head? Later on to find yourself humming the melody throughout the whole day? Or even better, writing the lyrics down on the nearest napkin you can find? Well…I am a victim. The intro to this song is so captivating, and that’s not all, it is followed by a nice jazzy, soul and rock ballad feel. I’m talking about ” Sabotage” by Atlanta’s own, CloudEater.
I’m sure you’ve heard of the name before. This five man piece band consist of front-man; Sam Dew with the voice of a dove, Daniel Friedman on the guitar and keys, Chris Hunt on the drums, Kevin Scott on the bass and Nolan Kramer on fx and synthesizer. The melody, voice, sax, drums, guitar and bass falls through so magically!
The lyrics to this song grabs you seeking for more. Something we can all relate too! This band has it all.

CloudEater is grabbing Atlanta one cloud at a time, and i can fairly I’ve been grabbed! They were previously part of Atlanta’s A3C “Hip-Hop Festival” featuring over 200 + acts. Sadly I wasn’t there to enjoy the moment, but I’m positive they won the crowd over. Word on the street, they are currently recording their full length album.CloudEater currently have an EP out, called Greatest Tragedy. You can take a preview here on www.cloudeater.bandcamp.com and purchase it at the same time!

It’s a band you don’t want to sleep on! I’m leaving you here with a glass of almond milk and “Sabotage”.

Enjoy, and thank me later.

Monsters & Paper.

There’s more to Atlanta than just music, you just have to be adventurous.  From Apache Cafe, to the High Art Museum, Atlanta’s heartbeat is art.  Paper Frank, one of the many talented artist in Atlanta, shows that through his craft. At only 19 years of age, fella Frank has been able to do that. Last month, he recently finished a showcase at Apache Cafe called “Damien’s Adventureland” , and is now working on another one in December, called “Monsters“. Luckily, I had the chance to steal him away from his paintbrushes, and asked him a few questions we were all interested in.

-Why “Monsters” ?
I chose the name “Monster” for two reasons, one my artwork depicts little monsters, sort of like “inner demons” and also because people call me a “MONSTER” because of all my accomplishments in such a short period of time.

-How would you describe your originality?
I would say I’m pretty original when it comes to my artwork, because it deals with personal problems that I have as a human being.

-You recently closed a successful showcase down at Apache Cafe, what would you say was your proudest moment?
My proudest moment of that is when I did the Q&A, I was surprised at how many people asked questions, it was nice to see that people are really curious about my work.

-Being one of the youngest artist in Atlanta, what keeps you motivated and focused?
Seeing older successful artist alone keeps me motivated, and the fact that most of them probably weren’t pushing their art when they were 19 years old, I just want people to love my artwork.

-Who would you say you look up to?
I look up to Takashi Murakami a great deal.

- Where did your inspiration behind Damien’s Adventureland came from ??
The inspiration behind that show came from so many places, but mainly things what goes on inside my head. I think of my mind as an adventure land.

-Anyone you’d like to collaborate with in the near future?
I’m actually doing a collaboration with Atlanta based photographer, Nikita Gale soon, and I would like to work with Tattoo artist Corey Davis also.

-When did you realize painting was your talent?
When people started bugging me about letting them have my paintings.

-Where do you see yourself in 5 years? As young as you are, are you proud of how far you’ve came?
I see myself have exhibitions overseas, and being a “world- known” artist, and yes, I am proud of myself for getting this far, but this is only the beginning, I have a while to go.

-Tell us what’s a day like in the life of Frank. Any hobbies aside painting, drawing and taking over the scene?
I also skateboard, and I love photography, two things I do other than art.

So there you have it,a living proof that anything is possible! From skateboarding to photography as his hobbies, he showed us that nothing needs to be left alone. Go after your desire, and don’t ignore your talents.

Monsters” will be showcased at City Of Ink, December 10th, in Atlanta, Ga
Mark your calendars, it’s a show you won’t want to miss.
